"GOP'S ARROGANCE FORCE VOTERS TO HOLD THEIR NOSES AND VOTE DEMOCRATIC"
FOREST LEWIS, PH.D.
CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGIST
The patient is presently being kept alive on life support.
But, in a couple of weeks, voters across the country will do the decent and honorable thing, "Pull The Plug."
Republicans have no one to blame, but themselves for the political mess they find themselves in. They have failed their Conservative base on a number of important issues. For example, the President wanted to grant illegals amnesty. He dragged his feet on putting up a fence along the border with Mexico. On the issue of gay marriage, where was Bush? I don't recall hearing the man talk about this hot button issue. The aforementioned issues are very important to Conservatives.
The coup de grace for the Republicans is Iraq. Bush's stubborness, or should I say his blinders, prevented him from looking at any other options, save, "Stay The Course." His hardheadedness has gotten a lot of young kids killed. Ten Americans were killed in Iraq this past weekend. For the month of Ocober, 85 Americans have given their lives. These numbers do not escape the watchful eye of Americans. In the meantime, a number of young people have had their lives shattered by the loss of a limb, or several.
The nation was behind this President when he went to war with Iraq. However, I do not believe that he thought it through. Colin Powell, the erstwhile, Secretary of State told Mr. Bush, "If You Break It, You Own It."
There are some things that I disagree with Mr. Powell on. However, his sagacious advice he gave to the President is not one of them. I find myself asking, "What Was Bush Thinking About" when he committed our troops to Iraq? Didn't he consider the culture of this country which in biblical days was known as Babylon? Didn't he consider the hatred that the various groups in Iraq have for one another? No, I do not believe that a lot of "Mental Shifting" went on his George Bush's mind prior to the invasion of Iraq. And now, he's paying for it.
I am a Conservative and proud of it. However, there are times that European-Americans just don't get it. They think that every one is chomping at the bit to be like them. Iraq has shown our President that this is not true. The Iraqis way of doing things are different than that of Americans. Bush did not consider that. Had he studied the culture of Iraq, he would not be faced with the mess currently sitting "HIGH" atop his plate.
The Iraqis have lived under the iron hand of a dictator, Saddam Hussein, for so long, that I do not beleive that they have the will to stand up and fight. The Iraqis are the quintessential poster child for the psychological definition of "LEARNED HELPLESSNESS."
When one gives into Learned Helplessness, that individual in essence is surrendering. He or she is saying that "I Am Defeated Before I Even Try." "Go Ahead And Do What You Will With Me."
The Iraqis have shown that they have no stomach for fighting. If they had a burning desire to be free, they would fight the insurgents with every fiber in their being. But sadly, this is not the case. The Iraqis look to the Americans to fight their battles. However, a new day is looming on the horizon.
Bush has to tell the Iraqis in "Plain English" that if they want to be free, they will have to "STEP UP", and go after the bad guys. Further, he will have to tell the fledgling government of Iraq that our being in their country is no longer "Open Ended."
It is time for the Iraqis to "GROW UP" and fight like "A Man Possesed With The Devil" and defend their homeland from interlopers. That's right, the insurgents are not Iraqis. They are terrorists from Iran, Egypt, Syria, Jordan, etc.
Americans can no longer go on dying in Iraq. To show that he means business, the President will have to start a slow phased withdrawal of our troops. A total pull out would be insane. Keeping our troops in Iraq indefinitely is also insane. The Iraqis must decide what type of government they want.
The Democratics will take control of the House after November 7th: and they might just win back the Senate, given the sentiment in our country.
Americans must look at the track record of Democrats. Bill Clinton could have had Osama Bin Laden Killed during his time in office. However, Clinton dropped the ball. But this delusional man wants us to believe that "he tried to get Bin Laden."
Bill Clinton was the one who took his eye off of the pot bellied dictator of North Korea, Kim Jong-il. Madeline "halfbright," his Secretary of State, went to North Korea and was feted with champagne and caviar. She had a great time laughing with "The Dog Eater," while his people starved.
While "Half-Bright" was stuffing her face with expensive chow, Kim Jong-il was having his workers gin up their nuclear power machines. Clinton being the great re-writer of history that he is, is trying to get us to believe that he "Had his Eye On The Pot Bellied Dog Eater Of North Korea." Not true. simply, not true.
These are dangerous times in the world; and when I stop and think of the track record of Democrats and their antipathy for fighting, I become scared, really scared.
The Democrats talk a good game, but when it is crunch time, all they want to do "Is Talk." We have an enemy out there who hate our way of living. These animals aren't interested in talking. They want your head on a platter, literally.
The Democrats haven't done "One Thing" that would warrant placing them in charge of the Congress and possibly the Senate. The Republicans, with all of their arrogance of power is what has lead to their down fall. They turned their noses up at their base, Conservative Republicans.
Maybe turning the reigns of power over to the Democrats for the next two years won't be so bad after all. It will give the GOP a chance to "Lick Their Wounds" and take a look at where they went wrong.
The GOP will come back much the wiser in 2008. I don't care how angry voters are now. The thought of Hillary "THE STUPID PUBLIC DON'T SEE MY SMOKE AND MIRRORS" Clinton in the White House; and a Democratic controlled House and Senate is enough to made one think of commiting Hari-Kari.
